Covered and Non-Covered HBOT Conditions

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is typically classified into two categories: Covered (On-Label) and Non-Covered (Off-Label) conditions.

Covered Conditions

These are FDA-approved indications for HBOT, often covered by insurance, though not always. In the U.S., there are 14 approved conditions. By comparison, other countries have recognized many more applications—over 40 in Europe and more than 60 in Japan and China.

Non-Covered Conditions

These conditions, not yet FDA-approved, are usually not covered by insurance. However, extensive research indicates that HBOT may benefit various off-label conditions, including neurological disorders, chronic pain, and autoimmune diseases.

Globally, HBOT is widely used for these purposes, with studies showing promising results in reducing inflammation, enhancing tissue repair, and supporting healing. As research continues, HBOT’s potential for treating a broader range of conditions is gaining increased attention.
